Aesthetic surgeries, in which deformities of the nose caused by birth or occurred later are corrected, are called aesthetic nose correction. There are different applications, known as open or closed methods. The technique to be used in a surgical procedure is determined by the condition and needs of the patient and the experience of the surgeon. However, the technique which is known as the open method is the most common one.
Before the aesthetic nose correction, a plan is made according to the patient’s face. Patients who wish to have a nose correction with aesthetic surgery often have a nose profile in their mind, but each nose does not adapt to each face, so careful planning is required. The result of an aesthetic surgery can be shown to the patient with the help of modern technology as a digital simulation before the surgery and in this way the final decision can be made. The plastic surgeon presents the nasal options according to the bone structure and facial shape so that the application can be decided more easily. Aesthetic nose correction is performed under general anaesthesia. After this operation, which lasts about 2-3 hours, the patient might stay in hospital for one night if necessary. One week after the operation, the surgeon performs a check-up to determine the next phase.
After an aesthetic nose operation, pain is extremely normal, so that medication can be taken to relieve the pain, allowing the patient a more pleasant healing process. Depending on the patient’s condition, additional medication may be administered as needed. Swelling, oedema and bruising may occur after the procedure. Swelling and oedema disappears after two to three days and bruising can last up to a week depending on the patient. In some cases, a temporary blockage of the nose might occur, which will disappear within seven to ten days. During the postoperative examination, the nasal tampons are removed, and bandage is applied. Just one day after the nose operation, the patient can return to daily routine, but it takes three to four months to complete the healing phase.
